The Clean River Kent Campaign (CRKC) is a coalition of communities living along the length of the river Kent in Cumbria from Kentmere to Staveley, Burneside, Kendal, Sedgwick, Levens and down to the sea at Arnside.
Our aim is to make the river Kent clean for all types of water-based recreation and to protect the ecology and wildlife in the river by working with local communities.
In 2025, the Clean River Kent Campaign will focus on Political advocacy, Community engagement and citizen science.
CRKC have launched a campaign to inspire households and businesses to protect the River Kent.
By making small changes to our everyday habits, we can significantly reduce the amount of chemicals reaching and harming the special river that we all love.
If you suspect that there’s been a sewage discharge into the River Kent and notice a strange smell or odd-looking stretch of water or any other signs of pollution, please immediately report this.
Following a pilot study, water samples were collected between 1 September 2023 and 31 August 2024 from 19 locations across the River Kent and its main tributaries.
CRKC has recently published the following 2 documents: CRKC Position Statement – Future of the Water Industry – April 2025
